Today we introduce you to Miss Amellia! Amellia is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

Tell us about your family.

My family lives in Hoover, AL. My parents have been married for 34 years and they are my biggest role models. They have taught me that with hard work and drive I can accomplish anything I pursue in life. I have three siblings. My oldest and I chose the better of the rivalry and both went to The University of Alabama. While my brother and youngest sister both attend Auburn University. There is never a dull moment when us siblings get together.

Do you have any hobbies or interests?

I have always loved running and working out. I want to get better at tennis and continue playing with my hometown friends. I listen to music 24/7 and love going to concerts!

Favorite Birmingham restaurant?

My favorite restaurant is Pizzeria G.M. in Homewood!

Where did/do you go to school?

I am currently a junior at The University of Alabama. I am a Human Development Major with a concentration in Family Life Education and Advocacy. Roll Tide!

What made you want to be an RBT?

I have always loved working with little humans and had a heart for helping people. I honestly didn’t know a thing about ABA until 2020, when Covid shut down everything. I met a BCaBA through a mutual family and came to find out this job is everything I wanted to do in my life and more.

What’s your favorite aspect of being a RBT?

My favorite aspect of being an RBT is watching the kids I work show progress and develop new skills.

What are your favorite resources for learning more about behavior analysis and/or Autism?

My favorite resources are my coworkers! Anytime I have questions regarding anything about behavior analysis or Autism in general they help me the most!

What’s the one thing you wish parents knew about behavior analysis?

I wish that parents knew that their child is our top priority! At SBH we value the importance of group effort to help all children succeed. One of my favorite sayings is “Nothing worth it ever comes easy”. The difficult moments in life, make you come out stronger.
