Our 2020 #SBHGivesBack recipient was United Way of Central Alabama. While we highlighted UWCA , we wanted to take this year to highlight some of their impact – next is the 2-1-1 Call Center.

United Way’s 2-1-1 Information and Referral Line is an easy-to-remember telephone number that connects you with community services to meet a wide variety of needs. Best of all, it’s free and confidential. Search more than 800 community organizations throughout Alabama to find the help you need.

Alabama Resources for Enrichment, Self-Sufficiency, and Employability Training (ARESET) is Alabama’s name for the Employment and Training program for individuals receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.

AREST can help you achieve career goals through:

  • Supervised Job Searches
  • Job Search Training
  • Resume Writing
  • Work Experience and On-the-Job Training
  • Education
  • Self-Employment Training
  • Job Retention
  • Childcare Assistance
  •  Transportation
  • and more

Call 2-1-1 to see if you’re eligible.

United Way of Central Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Jefferson County Department of Health are working together to provide assistance to individuals in Central Alabama, who are facing hardship resulting from the need to isolate due to COVID-19.

Patients who have tested positive for, or been exposed to, COVID-19, and are required to quarantine, may qualify for assistance that could help keep their families safe and make isolation easier. By calling United Way’s 2-1-1 information and referral line, they can be screened to see if they may qualify for help in various ways, such as:

• Food from grocery stores and restaurants
• Short-term hotel accommodations
• Transportation to doctors and hospitals
• Laundry and cleaning supplies

These are just a few examples of ways they might receive assistance by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 information and referral line, but there are strict guidelines to qualify.

Patients should call 2-1-1 to be screened for qualification and to learn more about this special program.
